Small supercell at dusk looking east. Setting in the west my favorite moon, a new crescent, was lying on it's back. What a great way to end the day!

It was interesting also to see this structure in so mild a storm, echoing that of the truly nasty shelf clouds that come in dropping golfball hail into blasting outflow winds. This display was a dance of air, and purely a pleasure to observe, a reward for taking a chance on the day, investing the time and miles. It was well worth it.

Looking for severe storms, this High Plains thunderstorm dispersing over the corn fields east of Akron was nothing to write home about. Storms went up at peak daytime heating along a boundary paralleling I-76 across northeastern CO, and spent themselves quickly. However, it was a very memorable day for me, out solo. Why? The precip shafts behind this light and graceful arcus contained hail. Traveling home through the sagebrush country west of Akron, the air was heavenly, saturated with two of my favorite scents: crushed sage mixed with the sharp smell of ozone created by fresh rain on summer baked earth ...
