The Wall Cloud Wall

Llano Estacado Meso

Llano Estacado Meso

(Part 3...) By this time, I had to move to a different spot; and the rotation was peaked in the wall cloud. Shortly afterward, the supercell slowly died as it moved into a zone of stable, rain-cooled air produced by a thunderstorm complex the night before. This part of the southern High Plains is known as Llano Estacado, or Staked Plains -- a major physiographic region in Texas. To me it is also the best area in the world for storm observing with its tabletop flatness, treelessness, frequency of picturesque storms, and good road network.
