Custer City Spindown
[Part 2 of 2] This tornado was not much more brief than average -- just two or three minutes -- but somehow that was just enough time to spot the vortex, find a safe place to pull over, call in the report, snap a few photos with two different lenses, and watch it fizzle away. This was a 200 mm zoom taken about 20 seconds after the first shot at 50 mm focal length. Under such circumstances, any observer would be very fortunate to get a passable photograph! Such is the difficulty of capturing on film one of the most ephemeral and elusive forces in nature: the tornado.
