Icicles Dripping into Lake
This scene occurred very close to the next shot, but under far different circumstances! Like the ice toes at a nearby pond, these formed in persistent subfreezing air temperatures. The difference here was that the source of runoff was more vertical (a log), higher above the water surface, with occasional bigger waves providing the washovers. Suspended reddish clay in the water, along with partial reflection of the blue sky, combined to offer the peculiar purplish tint apparent on the surface.
