This was my second time around the big lake, and Elke's first. My daughter Donna went with us -- basically her first Lake Superior experience, since she was too little to remember most of the previous one. The last time, in 1999, I shot some slides, a few of which turned out well, but failed to take better advantage of so many of the spectacular visual opportunities offered by the water, sky and often rugged landscapes around the world's largest body of fresh water. This trip would be a different story, a photographic redemption for me, and a first-time opportunity for Elke, each of us now equipped with pro-grade digital equipment and seven more years of photography experience. We also took the time to appreciate and shoot some of the classical, Victorian era residential architecture along the way, in places such as St. Paul, Mackinac Island and Bayfield. And with the beautiful Mackinac area so close, why not spend some time there too?
Between us, Elke and I shot over two thousand images! From these, I've selected about 5% of that total for this gallery, then ordered them almost randomly. Each thumbnail will open a script to view a 500 pixel long shot in its own white border. That script is harmless but your browser may try to block it anyway. If so, just click on the bar that shows up to allow it to run from this site.
Please browse with leisure those images that spark your curiosity, and come back again anytime.
