It was just another fine evening on the Great Plains, in the company of a few western meadowlarks, choruses of crickets, and a high-based, tail-end supercell that dominated the sky. This is a magical hour for the photographer willing to open aperture wide and boost ISO to pull in a brooding slate-blue hue seldom seen at other times of the day. Just a little less light is filtered through the western storm clouds than arrives indirectly from the east and south.
