One peek into the long-unused inside of the historic Cape Disappointment Lighthouse offered a window from the outside through the shadows to one of the most scenic vistas in America -- the Columbia River mouth. The scene evoked much dichotomy, even more so with greater contemplation: the still staleness of the musty room separated by one thin pane from a fresh and breezy atmosphere outside; dormancy and calm within, power and activity without; a view from darkness to light, letting light into darkness; dryness and destitution hosting a vista of boundless and bountiful waters; unambiguous lines separating brightness and clarity from uncertainties in the murk; a gaze upon constant changes of today from the static lair of a time long gone.
