Perched high on a hill overlooking Admiralty Inlet, this Romanesque courthouse stands sturdy and stately, clad in Alaskan sandstone and bricks from St. Louis. The 124-foot clock tower offers the correct time visually and audibly to all of Port Townsend, with only 1/4 inch of wear on the hammered part of the bell since 1891. Before electricity arrived in 1912, it took two men half a day and a 194-step climb to wind the clock.
