I was here to shoot a waterfall in the "blue hour" twilight, and the combination of lighting and lessening water flow just wasn't going to work. Yet on the west-facing cliff face grew a golden-orange glow, a message from above saying, "behind you!" And so it was: sharpening sunset light of increasingly flaming brilliance, unusually cast through low clouds in a clean high-country sky, with one nearby tree and the mountains on the other side of the canyon to silhouette the scene marvelously. Lesson: Photographers with a pre-planned purpose in a place should not get too fixated on it!
