Multicell Blasting More Bolts

Rural E Norman, OK; 11 Jul 2013

Short animation of tripodded still imagery.
Use the controls above the images to stop, start, step forward and backward, and change loop speed. Shove the speed bar all the way to the right for fastest animation.

Direction of view is SSW. Loop consists of 21 images, 17 minutes from first to last. Time lapse exposure varies due to differing brightness of lightning and variable aperture durations. The view encompasses the main-updraft (north) side of a growing, very electrified, multicell storm complex with several "bolts from the blue" fired miles out into clear air. Because the images were taken for lightning capture, the interval is mildly irregular; still, you can get a good idea of the evolution of the convective turrets and other cloud features.
